Our Team
Kate Turner – Principal & Keyboard/Piano Teacher
Kate began learning music at age 11, starting with the Electone (electronic organ) before progressing to piano. By the age of 17, she became one of the youngest teachers to be trained by Yamaha, and has since enjoyed a lifelong career teaching the Yamaha Music Method. Kate has performed multiple times at Birmingham Symphony Hall, including as part of the Yamaha Teacher Ensemble.
Her favourite course to teach is the Junior Keyboard Course, where she finds joy in seeing children as young as five and a half complete their first pieces. Kate believes that music should always be fun and engaging, and her enthusiasm inspires students of all ages to enjoy every step of their learning journey.
Outside of music, Kate is passionate about running and has completed two full marathons — including the prestigious London Marathon — along with numerous half marathons. She’s also a dedicated Kylie Minogue fan, whose music she describes as “uplifting and full of joy.”
Toby Longhurst – Guitar & Keys Teacher
Toby has been immersed in music since his teenage years, performing on guitar, keys, and bass across a variety of bands and genres — from jazz and rock to classical. He holds a Degree in Music and Composition from the University of Southampton and a Master’s in Writing Music for Film from the Royal College of Music in London.
Toby loves helping students experience the same excitement for music that first inspired him, particularly by breaking down the challenges he once faced as a learner. His lessons are engaging, supportive, and full of energy.
Outside of music, Toby enjoys all things sport — from the gym and squash to tennis and football — and credits The Beatles as one of his biggest musical inspirations.
Jessica brings over 20 years of teaching experience to Solihull Music School, working with children and adults in both group and individual settings. She holds a Professional Diploma in Music Composition and is passionate about inspiring confidence and creativity in every student.
Jessica enjoys turning challenging exercises — like scales and technique work — into fun, rhythmic activities by using the Yamaha Music Method. Her approach helps students see the joy and creativity in every part of learning.
Outside the classroom, Jessica is a dedicated composer with a love for film music. Inspired by her favourite composers — Leonard Bernstein, John Williams, Rachmaninoff, Taylor Swift, Hisaishi Jō, and Joyce Cheung — she continues to write and share her music on her YouTube channel.
