Welcome back — and some important news if you missed our Easter update

Dear parents and students,

Welcome back. We hope you had a restful Easter break.

Before anything else, I want to share some news that many of you will not yet have seen — and something I felt it was important to tell our whole school family properly.

A Note from Kate 💜

Jane Teare, Kate Turner and Philip Teare - Founders of Solhull Music School outside the old premisis

As some of you will know from our Easter newsletter, my mum Jane — who has been at the heart of this school since the very beginning — had been bravely fighting pancreatic cancer.

Sadly, Jane passed away peacefully in the early hours of Easter Sunday, 5 April. She was at home, surrounded by family.

Jane helped me build this school over twenty years ago and never really left. She managed every exam booking, kept the administration running, and always referred to the music school as "her baby." That is exactly what it was to her — and her love for every child who has walked through these doors will always be part of what this place is.

We are heartbroken, and we are spending as much time together as a family to get through the next few weeks.

Jane's funeral will take place on Thursday 30 April. If anyone from our school family would like to know more or wishes to attend, please contact my husband Brendan:

📧 brendan@solihullmusicschool.co.uk

I am back teaching from Monday 13 April and, honestly, being at the school with your students is exactly where I want to be. Brendan is managing the day-to-day administration of the school and will make sure everything continues to run smoothly. Please do direct any admin queries to him rather than to me for the time being.

With love and gratitude for your continued kindness,

Kate

We're Back — Monday 13 April

Lessons resume Monday 13 April, at their normal scheduled times.

Two New Teachers Have Joined Us 🎵

We are delighted to have welcomed two new members to our teaching team this term.

Holly joins us as a vocal and keyboard teacher and has already made a wonderful impression. She teaches on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with Thursday lessons coming very soon.

We are currently recruiting for new Wednesday and Thursday vocal and keyboard classes. If your child — or anyone you know — has ever wanted to sing or learn keyboard, now is a brilliant time to get in touch. Places will be limited.

Romarna joins us as our new drum teacher, bringing real energy and enthusiasm to the school. We are absolutely thrilled to have her on board.

Please do say hello when you see them — they are a wonderful addition to our team.

Exam Results — 100% Pass Rate 🏆

We are incredibly proud to share the results from our most recent exam sitting:

  • 5 Pass

  • 12 Merit

  • 🌟 4 Distinction

Every single student passed. That reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our teachers, and the support of every parent who encourages practice at home. Well done to absolutely everyone involved.

Fee Update — From May 2026 💷

If you missed our Easter newsletter, please do take note of this upcoming change.

Our fees were last reviewed approximately two years ago — before two government budgets and the significant impact these have had on staffing and running costs across the sector. We have kept this increase as modest as we responsibly can.

From May 2026, fees will be:

Group Lessons £82 per month

1-to-1 Lessons£122 per month

Our updated Terms and Conditions can be viewed at 👉 www.solihullmusicschool.co.uk/terms-and-conditions If you have any questions about the fee change, please reach out.

Thank you, as always, for being part of the Solihull Music School family. We look forward to a wonderful term ahead.

Warm regards,

Brendan Turner on behalf of Kate Turner and the Solihull Music School team
