Easter Newsletter 2026 — News from Solihull Music School
This newsletter was sent to our school community on 1 April 2026. Sadly, since it was written, Jane passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, 5 April. Please read our [updated post — link to April update] for the full news.
Dear parents and students,
As we reach the end of another wonderful term, I wanted to share some important updates with you — including some very exciting news, some changes to be aware of, and something more personal that I felt it was right to share with our school family.
We open again after Easter break on Monday 13 April.
Two Wonderful New Teachers
We are so pleased to have welcomed two new members to our teaching team this term.
Holly joins us as a vocal and keyboard teacher and has already made a brilliant impression. She currently teaches on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with Thursday lessons coming very soon. We are actively recruiting for new Wednesday and Thursday classes ahead of next term — if you know anyone who would love to join, please do pass the word on. Places will be limited.
Romarna joins us as our new drum teacher and brings real energy and enthusiasm to the school. We are absolutely delighted to have her on board.
Please do say hello if you see them around — they are a fantastic addition to the Solihull Music School family.
Exam Results — 100% Pass Rate 🏆
We are incredibly proud to share the results from our most recent exam sitting:
✅ 5 Pass
⭐ 12 Merit
🌟 4 Distinction
Every single student passed. That is a testament to the hard work of our students, the dedication of their teachers, and the support of every parent who encourages practice at home. Well done to all involved — you should be very proud.
Fee Update — From May 2026
I want to give you as much notice as possible about a change to our fees, effective from May 2026.
Our fees were last reviewed approximately two years ago — before the last two government budgets and the significant impact these have had on the costs of running a business. Staffing, premises, training and systems have all increased considerably, and we have kept this increase as modest as we responsibly can, whilst ensuring we can continue to invest in the quality of teaching and the environment your children deserve.
From May 2026, fees will be:
Monthly Fee Group Lessons £82 per month
1-to-1 Lessons£122 per month
Our updated Terms and Conditions, which reflect this change, can be viewed at www.solihullmusicschool.co.uk/terms-and-conditions.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
A Personal Note from Kate 💜
This is the part of this update I have found hardest to write, and I wanted to share it with you personally rather than leave it unsaid.
As many of you know, I founded Solihull Music School over twenty years ago with the unwavering support of my parents, Phil and Jane Teare.
Phil has recently and happily stepped into retirement, though he still pops in to help whenever he can — very much in the spirit of the school he helped build.
Jane has been a constant presence here for years. She has lovingly managed exam bookings, organisation and administration, and refers to the music school as "her baby" — which, in so many ways, it is. She has been the backbone of so much of what makes this school run as smoothly as it does.
Over the past twelve months, Jane has been bravely fighting pancreatic cancer. She is now receiving palliative care, and our family is spending as much precious time with her as we can.
I will of course continue to teach my classes — honestly, being here with your children is a joy and a comfort to me — but I will need to step back from some of my administrative responsibilities for a period, and may need the occasional time away to be with family.
My husband Brendan will be taking over the day-to-day administration of the school during this time. He knows the school well and will make sure everything continues to run smoothly. You can reach him at:

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your kindness, your loyalty, and your continued support of this school. It means more than I can say.
With love,
Kate Turner Principal, Solihull Music School
